		Straw House and Log Cabin Craft Projects Quilting

	Quilting   supplies    directions    projects Paper quilting involves measuring skills for older students or folding practice for lower grades. Combine individual quilt blocks into whole class or small group quilt projects. This project can become an art lesson: color combinations, cutting and pasting designs on paper or cloth. The students will have simple quilt blocks to share . Supplies for Quilting
	Quilt blocks:	construction paper, felt or gift wrap glued to a stiff paper base; combine construction paper and gift wrap for a more colorful quilt
	Quilt base:	fabric remnants, felt or paper
	Other supplies: scissors, glue, ruler

	Measuring or Folding Lesson
	Start with a 6 inch square base. Cut nine 2 inch squares (quilt pieces). Create designs called 9 Patch. Arrange pieces in different orders and directions to create designs.
	Start with a 6 inch square base. Cut four 3 inch squares (quilt pieces). Create designs called 4 Patch. Arrange in designs.
	Projects
	Glue the quilt pieces to the paper or cloth quilt backing to form blocks of quilting. Gather all the quilt blocks and glue together to make a quilt. Discussion: scraps of fabric recycled from sewing scraps and old clothes were used to make warm quilts.
